Colleen Claassen, MD

Dr. Colleen Claassen specializes in neonatal resuscitation and critical care of infants with complex congenital heart disease. She treats premature and extremely low birth weight infants (Level II-IV neonatal intensive care) and newborns with congenital cardiac and surgical diseases. She also provides care through the neonatal follow-up clinic.
Dr. Claassen uses the latest technologies, including inhaled nitric oxide for pulmonary hypertension, high frequency oscillatory ventilation for severe respiratory failure, and bubble CPAP for respiratory distress syndrome. Research interests include simulation-based training for physicians and nurses, neonatal resuscitation education in resource-limited settings, and optimal use of bubble CPAP for respiratory distress syndrome.
Dr. Claassen is an associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatology, at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Dr. Claassen trains medical professionals in neonatal care in countries such as Uganda, Rwanda, Belize, and Haiti.
