Fred Buckhold, MD

The Society of Hospital Medicine defines a hospitalist as a physician who delivers comprehensive medical care to acutely ill, hospitalized patients. Dr. Fred Buckhold is a hospitalist who treats adult patients at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital. His areas of interest include patient safety and quality, high-value care, evidence-based medicine and medical education.

Dr. Buckhold is an assistant professor of internal medicine at Saint Louis University School of Medicine, where he serves as program director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program. His research interests include reducing unnecessary care interventions and costs while maintaining quality patient outcomes, as well as enhancing residents' and physicians' use of electronic medical records.

He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and serves on various medical education committees.

Dr. Buckhold is a native St. Louisan who enjoys rooting for home teams, as well as the Tottenham Hotspur Football Club of London, England.
