Dr. Dhiren Patel treats young patients who have bowel, liver, and abdominal disorders. His clinical expertise includes digestive diseases, swallowing disorders, gastrointestinal infections and food allergies. He performs upper and lower endoscopies, feeding tube placement, liver biopsy, rectal suction biopsy, esophageal dilatation, motility studies, foreign body removal, pH-impedance testing for gastroesophageal reflux disease and hydrogen breath testing for malabsorption in children. Dr. Patel uses the latest techniques in his care for patients, including capsule endoscopies and high resolution manometry for motility disorders.
His research interests include pediatric inflammatory bowel disease, motility disorders, celiac disease, fecal microbiota transplant and eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders.
Dr. Patel is an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Gastroenterology, at Saint Louis University School of Medicine.
He is a member of the North American Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, and is a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics.
